Mission Statement

The Clallam Progressive Coalition (CPC) is an inclusive political action group, dedicated to a platform of economic, social and environmental matters that ensures the health, rights and well-being of our community.

Our objective is to foster accountable and transparent local government, support policies, elect initiatives, measures and candidates who support our interests and concerns on issues facing our community.  We seek the participation of dedicated individuals regardless of political affiliation to assist us in achieving our visions and values.


Platform

Economy & Jobs Education Environment Health Care Social  & Civil Rights Women’s Rights & Equality

The Clallam Progressive Coalition adopts the following six objectives along with their specific goals:

Section 1: Economy and Jobs

Section 1.01. We advocate and support a living wage, equal pay and benefits, and safe working conditions.

Section 1.02. We attend public meetings, forums, and Clallam County Economic Development Corporation and Council (EDC) functions to support local residents and to actively speak on their behalf.

Section 1.03. We advocate and support the creation and maintenance of local businesses.

Section 1.04. We advocate and support a sustainable quality of life that includes good schools and stable jobs so that the people who reside in this county are able to stay long term.

Section 1.05. We promote sustainable local industry and the resources in our local economy through attending and speaking at Port of Port Angeles and County Commission meetings and panels.

Section 1.06. We advocate and support fair contracts for local unions.

Specific Goals for Economy and Jobs:

Timeframe: January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018:

  1. Section 1.02. Attend and participate in local meetings regarding economic issues to provide a voice for the average local worker and struggling local families.
  2. Section 1.04. Elect candidates who speak for, and demonstrate support for, our local economy and jobs.

Section 2: Education

Section 2.01. We actively attend public meetings and forums supporting our local students and their families and actively speak on their behalf.

Section 2.02. We advocate and support levies and bonds that have realistic value towards our children’s education and learning facilities.

Section 2.03. We support electing candidates who speak and act on the behalf of our children and educational system.

Section 2.04. We advocate and support the School Based Health Center.

Section 2.05. We advocate and support prevention programs within our school system.

Section 2.06. We advocate and support quality early childhood education from birth to preschool and through grades K-12, after school programs, trade schools, and community college.

Section 2.07. We advocate and support quality education and/or vocational/technology training.

Specific Goals for Education:

Timeframe: January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018:

  1. Section 2.01. Attend and participate in local school board meetings.
  2. Section 2.02. Assist and support school levy campaigns.

Section 3: Environmental Issues

Section 3.01. We will provide educational forum/panels on environmental issues.

Section 3.02. We will actively participate in the Clallam County Climate Action Plan and the City of Port Angeles’s Comprehensive Plan.

Section 3.03. We advocate and support organizations that apply the best available science to all decisions affecting our environment, so that our air, water and natural habitats are protected.

Section 3.04. We advocate and support the Paris Agreement on a local level.

Section 3.05. We advocate and support organizations in ending pipelines.

Specific Goals for Environment:

Timeframe: January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018:

  1. Section 3.02. Attend and particiate in meetings regarding the Clallam County Climate Action Plan and City of Port Angeles’s Comprehensive Plan to promote environmental protections.
  2. Section 3.03. Elect candidates who have a demonstrated record for, and who speak for, environmental protection and environmental causes.

Section 4: Health Care

Section 4.01. We advocate for healthcare for all, and we will collaborate with and support other organizations engaged in educating the public on this issue.

Section 4.02. We actively attend public meetings, forums, and Clallam County Health Department meetings supporting our local people and actively speak on their behalf.

Section 4.03. We advocate and support community support systems for behavioral health.

Section 4.04. We advocate and support Planned Parenthood.

Section 4.05. We advocate and support community resource systems for our veterans and residents.

Section 4.06. We advocate and support local efforts educating the public about alcohol and chemical addiction/dependency and available recovery programs, as well as collaborate with other organizations on this issue.

Specific Goals for Health Care:

Timeframe: January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018:

  1. Section 4.01. Advocate at public, city, and county forums about public health concerns.
  2. Section 4.02. Elect candidates who demonstrate and speak for our behavioral health, Planned Parenthood, recovery programs and/or health related issues.

Section 5: Social and Civil Rights

Section 5.01. We actively attend public meetings and forums supporting local people and actively speak on their behalf.

Section 5.02. We support protecting constitutional civil rights for all and supporting individual rights to privacy.

Section 5.03. We respect and support our local tribes and their treaty rights.

Section 5.04. We support the inclusion of all people and the right of all people to belong in this community.

Section 5.05. We advocate and support early alcohol and drug intervention, alcohol/drug treatment programs and job training to help return nonviolent offenders to their community as responsible residents.  We will collaborate with and support other organizations on this issue.

Section 5.06. We advocate for affordable and livable housing for all persons residing within every community and collaborate with and support other organizations on this issue.

Section 5.07. We advocate and support the freedom of speech and assembly.

Specific Goals for Social and Civil Rights:

Timeframe: January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018:

  1. Section 5.01. Attend ongoing meetings and forums in our community related to social and civil rights.
  2. Section 5.04. Elect candidates who build bridges for all people in this community.

Section 6: Women’s Rights and Equality

Section 6.01. We advocate and support economic justice issues affecting women.  These may include issues of welfare reform, livable wages, job discrimination, pay equality, housing, social security, and much more.

Section 6.02. We support Planned Parenthood and advocate for women’s access to reproductive health services including all forms of education, prevention, contraception, and access to a safe legal abortion.

Section 6.03. We advocate and support organizations that work towards prevention of domestic and family violence.  These may include issues of domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, violence at abortion clinics, bullying and hate crimes across lines of gender, sexuality and race.

Section 6.04. We advocate for quality child care, preschool education, and after-school programs.

Section 6.05. We advocate, support and educate women on becoming active members of local boards and committees in our cities and county.

Section 6.06. We encourage women candidates to run for election into local, County, District and State positions.

Specific Goals for Women’s Rights and Equality:

Timeframe: January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018:

  1. Section 6.05. Encourage citizens to join city or county level boards and committees.
  2. Section 6.06. Electing candidates who support the Clallam Progressive Coalition’s platform on Women’s Rights and Equality.
