City Arts Advisory Commission

Arts Commission
City Arts Advisory Commission members advise the City Council on matters related to art and culture. Commission members serve four-year terms on this voluntary seven member commission.

Duties and Authority
The Commission responsibilities are to provide recommendations to the staff and City Council in connection with cultural and artistic endeavors and projects in which the City becomes involved. A full list of the authority and duties is available in Ordinance No. 2014-008.

Civic Service Commission

Member Qualifications
Members must be registered voters in Clallam County and have been a city resident for at least three years.

About the Board
The Police Civil Service Commission is a three-member citizens’ panel, appointed by the city manager. Responsibilities include performing certain personnel-related aspects of the Sequim Police Department, as well as serving as a review body for police disciplinary actions.

Lodging Tax Advisory Commission

Member Qualifications
The committee consists of five voting members appointed by the City Council. The committee membership must meet the following requirements:

  • One member shall be a City Council member, who shall serve as chair.
  • Two members shall represent businesses required to collect lodging tax.
  • Two members shall be persons involved in activities authorized to be funded by revenue from the lodging tax.
  • There shall be equal representation of businesses required to collect tax under this chapter and persons involved in activities authorized to be funded by revenue received under this chapter.

About the Committee
The Lodging Tax Advisory Committee was established by ordinance (SMC 2.68), and operates pursuant to RCW 67.28, making recommendations to the City Council on issues related to the lodging tax.

Member Qualifications
Members must be residents within the Clallam County boundaries of School District 323, or business property owners within the City of Sequim. At least four members must be City residents.

About the Board
The Park, Arbor and Recreation Board is a seven-member citizen panel responsible for advising the City Council on matters related to the acquisition, control, improvement, beautification, and planning of all public squares and parks of the city and all city recreational facilities. Members serve three-year terms.

Members must reside within the Clallam County boundaries of the Sequim School District. At least four members at one time must be City residents. Currently there are four City residents and three County residents.

The Planning Commission is a seven-member citizen panel responsible for advising the City Council on matters related to long-range community planning, such as the adopted Sequim Comprehensive Plan. The commission and its duties are outlined in ordinance.

About the Sister City Association
A memorandum of Understanding signed October 31, 1992, with Yamasaki, Japan. The Sister City Association was formed to:

  • Promote friendship and mutual understanding between our communities
  • Coordinate student educational exchanges
  • Support the Friendship Garden

Yamasaki, Japan, joined with five other cities to form Shiso City, Japan. A new Sister City agreement was signed with Shiso City in 2004.

Membership Qualifications
If you have an interest in planning cultural events and student exchanges, fundraising, gardening, or just getting involved, you are invited to attend a Sister City Association meeting, which is open to everyone. To join or find out more information about the Sequim-Shiso Sister City Association, download the Sister City Association flyer, or email Sequim.Sister.City@gmail.com.

Transportation Benefit District

The Transportation Benefit District’s members are the City Council members.

About the District
The Transportation Benefit District is a seven-member board comprised of City Council members. It was established citywide by the City Council in 2008, which implemented a 0.2% sales tax increase that was approved by the voters in 2009. These funds are used for transportation improvements focusing on the following:

  • Decreasing travel time
  • Improving modal connectivity
  • Improving safety
  • Increasing daily and peak period trip capacity
  • Preserving and maintaining optimal performance of transportation infrastructure
  • Reducing the risk of transportation facility failure

Sequim Bicycle Alliance

About the Alliance

Sequim Bicycle Alliance is an umbrella coordinating group for bicycling interests in eastern Clallam County, furthering the goals of Sequim’s Bronze-level “Bike Friendly Community” designation: education, encouragement, engineering, evaluation and planning, enforcement, and economic development. The group meets quarterly at the Sequim Civic Center.
